1. “I harbor—and try to nurture—an inner Sophia Loren. I think everyone should. She projects a radical self-acceptance that eludes most of us, even (perhaps especially) the most beautiful among us. (People at the beginning of Loren’s career insisted she was not beautiful; she says she believed them. But rather than trying to twist herself into some version of what that iteration of the patriarchy thought it was looking for, she just kept going, as herself.) A cat-eye instantly connects me to that sexy, self-embracing Sophia Loren energy, whether it’s a little flick of liquid eyeliner or, more recently, these new lashes from LoveSeen. Put them on (the also-gorgeous and radically self-accepting Jenna Lyons, who founded LoveSeen, has made the putting-on part unbelievably easy with her unfinished-bronze tweezer tool) and up your glamour quotient by about 600 percent instantly, without any other makeup or even clothes. Somehow, though, they have the LoveSeen naturalness about them (the Cate, for reference, is the brand’s most natural), so that you could throw on a bathing suit (or a dress from Lisa Marie Fernandez, the most expert Loren-channeler in fashion) and run around enjoying life and you wouldn’t look overdone. I don’t know how they (LoveSeen) get the sexy-sunny-flirty balance just right, but they really do.”

1. “Some things are so pretty, they make me feel pretty. This glass-dropper-bottled bubble bath is like a bouquet of flowers that sits on the edge of the bathtub: Just looking at it while I soak is an enormous pleasure. Dropping the moisturizing (yet bubbling, which is something of a miracle) oil into the warm water precipitates another pleasure, as the subtle scent of rose, bergamot, and lemongrass essential oils starts to fill the air, and my skin soaks up the pure jojoba oil. Bubble bath is still rare in the world of clean beauty, but bubbles in a bath are just not to be lived without. Note that this makes the prettiest, bound-to-be-most-appreciated gift, too.”

1. “The magic of jasmine—not its scent, which is one of the most beautiful on earth, but its soothing, softening magic on skin—powers much of what they make at skin-loving Clark’s Botanicals, and this ultramoisturizing mask is a prime example of what an amazing ingredient it can be. Twenty minutes after smoothing it on (while in the tub), I splash it off (very easily, it should be noted) to absolutely baby-soft, can’t-believe-it, fully hydrated, renewed, supple skin. Along with jasmine, the elastic-textured, cream-almost-gel is made with algae, green tea, arnica, comfrey, radish root, vitamin E, and much, much more, so the benefits are not just the immediate nourishment but long-term free-radical fighting, radiance, and, as the brand puts it, bounce, a quality that I prize most of all. And important to know, you do not have to love the scent of jasmine (though I do) to love this mask: The totally natural scent is faintly floral, not full-on, so it’s as spirit-calming as it is skin-soothing.”

1. “Tucked into a corner table at Hancock St. on a recent date night, I did what I always do when I find myself at an impossibly cool, dimly lit West Village restaurant after more than half of a rum Negroni: I staked out the bathroom to, yes, wash my hands, but also to check out the hand wash. (Is it weird that I judge restaurants on the lusciousness of their bread baskets and the chicness of their hand washes?) Hancock delivered on both fronts (instead of bread, they bring out warm homemade kettle chips tossed with vinegar and Cheddar powder)—and inspired me to trick out my own bathroom with this gorgeous, botanical, pleasingly apothecary-esque set from Grown Alchemist. The hand wash is pure sweet-orange-sage-vanilla bliss and foams up like a dream, and the coconut and almond oils mixed in leave your skin supple and comfortable. The ultramoisturizing hand cream swirled with rose petal oil, rose hip, and sea buckthorn smells just as decadent. The pretty pump bottles stand tall on my bathroom sink and fancy everything up. If friends come over and secretly want to judge me on my hand wash, bring it.”

1. “Museum lighting is perfect for viewing art; it is nightmarishly expository and unforgiving if, like me, you’re breakout-prone. But at the opening of the new Kevin Beasley exhibit at the nonprofit Hill Art Foundation (run, don’t walk; it’s there until April 30), we were all fully illuminated—and I couldn’t have felt glowier or more comfortable in my skin. Moments before racing out, I’d splashed my face with water, then massaged on a dab of this. The beautifully rich marigold-yellow balm makes my skin come alive every time I use it. Balm is usually a hard no for blemishes, but this one makes them look and feel better, not worse.
